The family of Owoicho Ernest Ochoechi has condemned the brutal killing of their loved one by Nigerian military personnel in Benue State. Ernest, a medical professional and community leader, was beaten to death on April 5, 2025, in Apa Local Government Area.
The call was made in a statement signed on behalf of the family by the Apochi Nelson Owoicho.
Apochi described the killing as “a deliberate act of violence that is both barbaric and inhumane.” They demanded an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the events leading to Ernest’s murder.

The family also demanded that those responsible for Ernest’s killing to be identified, exposed, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
“We demand that those who carried out, enabled, or ordered this heinous act be brought to justice, no matter their rank or position,” Apochi Nelson Owoicho stated.
speaking on behalf of the family, Apochi Nelson described Ernest as a man of peace who dedicated his life to justice, development, and serving others.
“He was not a threat. He was a man of peace, a beacon of hope, and a pillar of our community,” he said.
The family also urged the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Ministry of Defence, and the Nigerian Army to take decisive action to bring justice to bear. “We will not rest until justice is done,” Apochi emphasized.
The family has received support from friends, neighbors, and community members. “To all who have stood with us, our friends, neighbors, community members, and allies, we thank you. Your support gives us strength in this time of sorrow,” Apochi said.
The family humbly asked the public and the media to respect their privacy and give them space to grieve. “Give us the dignity to mourn in peace,” Apochi requested.
He further said, that the family believes that Ernest’s values, compassion, and commitment to peace will live on through them. “Ernest’s life was not lived in vain. His values, his compassion, and his commitment to peace will live on through us,” Apochi stated.
