…Says Bill Sponsorship Requires Millions

The member representing Hadejia, Auyo, and Kafin Hausa Federal Constituency Hon. Ibrahim Usman Auyo, in the House of Representatives, is facing mounting criticism over claims that he has not sponsored a single bill since the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June 2023.
In a viral video in Hausa language circulated online, the three-term lawmaker popularly known as Kamfani, dismissed the allegations as “false”, challenging anyone with evidence to the contrary to come forward.
In his transcribed statement, Auoyo said “Since I went to the assembly, it’s not true that someone wrote a motion for their need or others to be presented before the house. It’s all false. And if at all, there is anybody who should come out to challenge me. “
Auyo, who was first elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2019 and 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that bill sponsorship comes at a steep cost.
“You have to pay ₦3 million, ₦2 million, or ₦1 million for it to be read on the floor of the House. After that, you must lobby over 360 lawmakers to support it,” he claimed.
Addressing accusations of neglecting youth in his constituency, Auyo said the majority of his empowerment projects benefited them.
“Eighty percent of the distribution goes to the youths, motorcycles, water pumps, cars. But some sell items worth ₦300,000 for ₦120,000 or ₦150,000,” he said.
On his approach to motions and bills, the lawmaker explained that communities should submit written proposals through his legislative aides for review.
“If it’s something I can address immediately, I do it. If it requires budget allocation, I push for it in the next appropriation,” he said.
The lawmaker also hinted at his intention to seek re-election in 2027.
“Like a singer said in the past, no going back. I stand by that in 2027 except what God destined,” he declared.
Efforts to get further comments from Auyo proved unsuccessful as of press time.
