The Senator representing Cross River North Senatorial District, Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, has formally announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing prolonged internal crises and irreconcilable divisions within the party as his reason for departure.
His resignation letter was read on Tuesday during plenary by the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over the session.
In the letter, Senator Jarigbe explained that his decision followed months of deep reflection on the state of the PDP, which he said had been crippled by factionalism at both the national and state levels.
“I rise to formally notify you and the distinguished leadership of the Senate of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, on whose platform I was elected to represent the good people of Cross River North Senatorial District,” the senator stated.
“It is with regret that I note the persistent and deep-seated divisions and the deliberate factionalization at both the national and state levels as the primary reasons for my departure.”
The lawmaker added that his move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) was in the interest of his constituents and aimed at ensuring continued effective representation.
“In light of the foregoing, and in the best interest of my constituents, I have chosen to join the All Progressives Congress,” he declared.
With his defection, the APC further consolidates its influence in Cross River State, where several key political figures have recently switched allegiance to the ruling party.
