The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has commended security operatives for rescuing three of the five persons abducted by bandits in Zurin Mahauta village, Lakwaya town, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State.
Gunmen suspected to have crossed into the state from neighbouring areas had stormed the community on Sunday night, kidnapping five residents and causing panic among villagers.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau described the attack as condemnable and called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining two victims.

He welcomed the swift response of security operatives, noting that their intervention had already led to the rescue of three abducted persons. He urged them to pursue the fleeing criminals and ensure that those still in captivity regain their freedom.
The senator’s position was corroborated by the Nigerian Army, as an Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, confirmed that three victims had so far been rescued during ongoing operations.
Senator Barau, who also serves as the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, stressed that criminal incursions into Kano communities must be decisively halted, warning that the state must not become a haven for armed groups.
He appealed to security agencies to strengthen surveillance and fortify vulnerable areas, assuring them of his continued support through logistics and other interventions aimed at boosting operational effectiveness.
According to him, the protection of lives and property remains paramount and non-negotiable.
