The Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission has approved a budgetary allocation of ₦140bn for the commission’s 2026 fiscal year.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Titus Zam, announced the approval on Monday after a budget defence session at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Zam said the allocation was designed to fast-track development across the North Central region, noting that the funds would be channelled towards critical infrastructure, security interventions, agricultural development and humanitarian support programmes.
He stated that the commission was expected to focus on projects that would stimulate economic growth, address displacement arising from insecurity and improve access to basic social services in affected communities.
The lawmaker stressed the committee’s commitment to transparency and accountability, warning that the commission must strictly adhere to budgetary provisions and ensure that public funds translate into measurable impact.
He added that the committee would intensify its oversight functions to ensure effective implementation of the 2026 budget in line with the mandate of the North Central Development Commission.
