The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday condemned the killing of residents in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the attack as gruesome and heinous.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker expressed sympathy with the victims and their families, noting that scores were reportedly killed, many injured, and properties destroyed during the assault.
Abbas said the incident underscores the urgent need for decisive action by the Federal Government and security agencies, warning that Nigerians must not be left at the mercy of criminals and non-state actors.
“The attack and mass killings at Angwan Rukuba call for sober reflection by all stakeholders and a collective response to crimes and criminality,” he said.
The Speaker stressed that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, urging stronger collaboration between federal and sub-national authorities, as well as enhanced cooperation among security agencies and citizens.
He also called for improved synergy between government institutions and local communities to effectively tackle insecurity across the country.
Abbas condoled with families of the victims and commiserated with the Angwan Rukuba community, as well as the government and people of Plateau State.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.
