…as Women of Glory Foundation marks 10th anniversary

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Federal Capital Territory Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been honoured with the Humanitarian Award for Excellence in Service in recognition of her contributions to society.
Ike received the award on Saturday in Abuja during the 10th anniversary celebration of the Women of Glory Foundation.
The organisers described her as the “Most Active Journalistic Mobilizer,” citing her role in mobilising journalists towards promoting national development and societal progress.
Speaking at the event, the founder of the Women of Glory Foundation, Dr Nneka Evelyn Nzewi, said the organisation was established out of personal hardship, driven by a desire to uplift vulnerable women.
She said, “At a very young age, I lost my father. My mother was suddenly left to raise five children with no support system.
“I watched her fight every day to survive—to provide, to stay strong, and to keep hope alive when the odds were stacked against her.”
Nzewi added that her childhood experience shaped her resolve to support women facing similar challenges.
“What she needed was not charity alone, but support, dignity, opportunity, and someone who believed in her potential,” she said.
According to her, the foundation has grown into a nationwide humanitarian platform with presence in all 36 states, focusing on empowering widows, elderly women, single mothers, and other vulnerable groups through skills acquisition, mentorship, healthcare support, and advocacy.
The award was received on behalf of Ike by the Assistant Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Sharon Emephia, who commended the foundation for sustaining its impact over the past decade.
“Ten years of sustained impact is no small achievement. It reflects resilience, vision, and a deep commitment to service,” she said.
Emephia also conveyed Ike’s appreciation to the organisers.
“I sincerely appreciate the organisers for this recognition. I receive this honour with gratitude and humility,” she said.
“I see it not just as a personal award but as a reflection of the collective efforts of the NUJ FCT Council and the values we uphold in promoting truth, development and societal progress.”
The event attracted women from different walks of life, many of whom have made significant contributions in their respective fields.
