The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for closer collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Society of Engineers to strengthen community policing, enhance emergency response and improve professional training for officers.
The call was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, following a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigerian Society of Engineers to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, held on July 28, 2026, focused on exploring strategic areas of partnership aimed at improving national security, disaster response and public safety through institutional cooperation.
Leading the delegation, the President of the NSE, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, congratulated the IGP on what he described as the notable progress recorded by the police under his leadership.
Rabiu commended the longstanding relationship between the NSE and the police, noting the Force’s sustained support for the engineering profession.
He also informed the IGP of the Society’s 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, and sought the support of the police in ensuring security and participation at the event.
In his response, Disu described engineers as critical partners in national development, commending their contributions to nation-building.
He also paid tribute to police officers serving in Borno State, particularly those in Maiduguri, for their resilience and sacrifices in maintaining security.
The IGP assured the NSE of adequate security for the conference and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to sustained collaboration with professional bodies.
“Engineers are vital partners in national development, and we remain committed to strengthening our engagement with professional bodies such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers in the interest of national security and public safety,” he said.
Disu urged the NSE to support community policing initiatives through sustained public enlightenment and advocacy, stressing that effective policing requires strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
He further called on the Society to involve the police in the planning and execution of its training programmes to enhance capacity building within the Force.
“We encourage the Nigerian Society of Engineers to always carry the police along in the planning and execution of its training programmes. Emergency response and disaster management are also critical areas where our institutions can work together for the benefit of the nation,” he added.
The NSE delegation included senior members such as Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, Engr. Tasiu Sa’ad Gidan Wudil, Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim Dutsinma, Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, Engr. Ademola Isaac Agoro, Engr. Dauda Musa, and Engr. Musa Ibrahim Musa.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with professional organisations to enhance public safety and protect lives and property across the country. If you want it harder-hitting (front-page Punch tone) or with a more dramatic lead, I can tweak the headline and intro further.
