The Airport Police Command has dismissed reports of a terrorist attack at the Asaba International Airport, Delta State, describing the security activities witnessed at the facility as a simulation exercise conducted by the Office of the National Security Adviser.
The command, in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Adeola, on Monday, said the exercise was conducted on Thursday, September 10, 2026, to test and strengthen the preparedness of security and emergency-response agencies.
It said the exercise involved the deployment of security personnel and other relevant stakeholders to recreate a simulated security incident within the airport environment.
According to the command, the exercise was designed to assess response capabilities, communication channels, command and control structures, as well as inter-agency coordination during potential security emergencies.
The statement read in part, “There was no terrorist attack or security breach at the Asaba International Airport, contrary to reports and narratives currently circulating on social media and other platforms.”
The command described the exercise as a “controlled and authorised activity” which should not be misconstrued as an actual terrorist attack or invasion of the airport.
It urged members of the public, particularly travellers and airport users, to disregard the reports and refrain from circulating unverified information capable of causing fear and panic.
The command assured the public that the security situation at the airport remained under control, adding that security agencies were vigilant and committed to protecting passengers, airport personnel, facilities and other stakeholders.
It also urged the public to rely on verified information from authorised government and security agencies and support efforts to strengthen national security preparedness and protect critical airport infrastructure.
