The body of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, has arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina, marking the beginning of a national farewell to a highly influential figure.
The remains, flown in from the United Kingdom where he passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, were received with full honors by a high-profile delegation.
The delegation was led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State. The ceremony at the airstrip was attended by members of the Federal Executive Council, top military commanders, and other national dignitaries, who gathered to pay their final respects.

As the late statesman’s body was transferred into a waiting ambulance under tight security, the atmosphere was draped in solemnity. The convoy has since departed for Daura, Buhari’s hometown, where preparations are underway for his interment later today in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Buhari, who served as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, passed away at the age of 82 after a brief illness. His legacy of discipline, anti-corruption stance, and dedication to national service has drawn widespread tributes.
In Daura, crowds are already gathering as residents and mourners from across the country await his arrival. Condolence messages continue to pour in, with many hailing his commitment to national development and his unwavering stance against corruption.
Buhari’s burial is expected to draw dignitaries, political allies, and citizens alike, in what promises to be a historic moment of national reflection.
