Deputy Speaker Kalu Celebrates Obasanjo at 89

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the occasion of his 89th birthday, describing him as a towering statesman whose leadership has shaped Nigeria’s democratic journey.

 

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu praised Obasanjo’s contributions to nation-building, noting that his legacy continues to inspire a generation of leaders across the country.

 

The Deputy Speaker described the former President as a visionary leader and champion of democracy whose achievements remain deeply etched in Nigeria’s political history.

 

Kalu particularly commended Obasanjo’s role in the transition to democratic governance in 1979, as well as his commitment to peace and economic development.

 

He said the former President’s selfless service, integrity, and dedication to national progress had earned him a revered place in the hearts of Nigerians.

 

“Your selfless service, integrity, and commitment to Nigeria’s political and economic development have inspired a generation of leaders. Your legacy continues to guide us towards a more perfect union where justice, equality, and opportunity thrive,” Kalu said.

 

The Deputy Speaker added that Obasanjo’s steadfast dedication to democratic principles had helped sustain the country’s democratic institutions.

 

“On this special day, I celebrate your life, achievements, and enduring impact. Your steadfast dedication to democratic principles has sustained our great nation, and we are grateful. Thank you for your service, sir,” he added.

 

Kalu also prayed for continued good health, peace, and happiness for the elder statesman as he marks the milestone birthday.
