Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has called on the Super Eagles to maintain their winning momentum and secure Nigeria’s qualification for the FIFA World Cup as they face DR Congo in Sunday’s decisive intercontinental playoff final in Rabat, Morocco.
Amadu, who represents the Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency of Zamfara State, expressed strong optimism in the team’s ability to overcome the Congolese, noting that the Super Eagles have demonstrated the quality, discipline, and resilience required to reach the global stage.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Niyi Busari, the lawmaker praised the squad for their emphatic 4–1 victory over Gabon in Thursday’s semifinal, describing the performance as a true display of Nigeria’s footballing spirit. However, he warned that the final remains a crucial hurdle that must be approached with absolute concentration.
“First of all, I congratulate the Super Eagles for beating Gabon to reach Sunday’s final against DR Congo,” Amadu said. “However, the job is not yet done. Nigeria undoubtedly has the quality to win, but the team must not underrate the Congolese. They should approach the match with the same energy and determination displayed against Benin Republic and Gabon.”
The Super Eagles booked their spot in the playoff final after a dramatic encounter in which Akor Adams broke the deadlock in the 78th minute, before Gabon’s Mario Lemina forced extra time with a late equaliser. Nigeria regained control during the added period as Chidera Ejuke restored the lead, and Victor Osimhen sealed the victory with a brilliant brace that sent fans into celebration.
DR Congo also endured a tense semifinal, edging Cameroon 1–0 thanks to a stoppage-time winner from captain Chancel Mbemba. The Leopards are chasing only their second-ever World Cup appearance, their last qualification dating back to 1974.
Sunday’s clash at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, scheduled for 7:00 p.m., will determine which nation grabs the coveted ticket to the FIFA World Cup intercontinental playoff. Amadu urged Nigerians to rally behind the team, stressing that national support remains vital as the Super Eagles push for a return to football’s biggest stage.
