The House of Representatives will on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, hold a Special Plenary Session dedicated exclusively to Nigeria’s worsening national security challenges, in what lawmakers describe as a decisive step toward strengthening the nation’s response to rising threats.
Announced in a statement by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi, mnipr, the session will be presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON. It is expected to bring together key security-oriented Committees, regional leaders, and lawmakers from across the country for a unified legislative appraisal of the nation’s security landscape.
According to the statement, the Special Session will feature consolidated internal assessments and formal presentations from the Committees on Defence; National Security and Intelligence; Police Affairs; Interior; and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness. In addition, Zonal and Regional Caucus Leaders will deliver structured briefings providing granular, region-by-region insights into security realities across the six geopolitical zones.
The strategic focus of the plenary, the House noted, is to give Members the platform to reflect on constituency-specific incidents, examine evolving national threats, and make evidence-driven contributions toward a more coordinated response.
Lawmakers are expected to deliberate extensively, after which the House will adopt a comprehensive Security Resolution. This resolution will outline actionable steps, enhanced oversight benchmarks, and a harmonised legislative approach to mitigating insecurity nationwide.
In line with the 10th Assembly’s commitment to transparency and public accountability, Tuesday’s proceedings will be broadcast live on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and streamed on the official Facebook page of the House of Representatives, @HouseNGR.
