The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a significant step towards strengthening its internal structure with the settlement of recent conflicts within the party. Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, representing Adamawa Central senatorial district, has expressed unwavering support for the party, stating that he is happy with whatever the PDP is doing.
According to him, Nigeria was better under the PDP’s leadership, and the party’s recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting has settled all disputes.
The NEC meeting, which took place at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, affirmed Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the party. Senator Iya Abbas described the settlement as a significant step towards strengthening the party.
“With the settlement, PDP is going out strong,” he said, adding that Nigerians are yearning for the PDP’s return to power due to dissatisfaction with the current government.
The lawmaker expressed confidence in the party’s ability to contest and win the 2027 elections, stating that the PDP will “do our best” to align with Nigerians’ wishes and prayers.
When asked about the recent wave of defections, Senator Iya Abbas remained unfazed, saying that the PDP is well-known across the country and that the party has done well in his state, Adamawa. “Politics is local,” he said, implying that the PDP’s performance in his state is a testament to the party’s enduring strength.
Senator Iya Abbas downplayed recent internal conflicts, describing them as “family affairs” that have now been settled. He emphasized that the party’s settlement of the wrangling between the two secretaries is a significant step towards strengthening the party. The lawmaker’s comments come after the PDP’s NEC meeting, where all disputes were settled, and the party’s National Chairman, Umar Damagum, declared that the NEC has affirmed Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary.
The PDP’s efforts to strengthen its internal structure are seen as a move to prepare the party for the 2027 elections. With renewed optimism, the PDP is gearing up to challenge the ruling party in 2027. Senator Iya Abbas’s support for the party is a significant boost, given his experience and influence in Adamawa state.
