In a significant step toward regional integration and development, the Managing Director of the South South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, and her counterpart from the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mr. Mark Okoye, held a high-level meeting today focused on fostering greater collaboration between the two commissions.
The meeting, held in Abuja, underscored the importance of synergy between the South South and South East regions, which share historical, cultural, and economic ties. Both leaders expressed a strong commitment to working together to advance infrastructure, social development, and economic opportunities across their respective regions.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Ms. Akpabio described the discussions as “enriching” and emphasized the value of regional cooperation.
“Earlier today, I had a truly enriching meeting with my brother and counterpart, the MD/CEO of the South East Development Commission, Dr. MOII,” she stated.
“We had a meaningful exchange of ideas on how to shape the future of our regions and explore ways to collaborate more closely, especially considering the many ties and shared communities between the South South and South East.
I am excited about the possibilities ahead and look forward to deepening this partnership for the progress and well-being of our people.”
The meeting marks a growing trend of inter-regional dialogue aimed at leveraging shared resources and addressing common challenges. Observers say closer cooperation between the SSDC and SEDC could unlock new opportunities for investment, regional trade, and infrastructure development.
