The Nigerian Police Force has deployed a senior officer to Plateau State following renewed attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area, as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and restore calm in the troubled communities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, ordered the deployment of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4, Dankombo F. Morris, to conduct an on-the-spot operational assessment of the security situation.
During the visit on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Morris visited Kawel Community in Mushere District, where he met with community leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to evaluate the impact of the attacks and assess ongoing security measures.
Conveying the condolences of the police leadership, Morris sympathised with families affected by the violence and reassured residents of the Force’s resolve to bring perpetrators to justice.
“We are committed to ensuring that those behind these attacks are apprehended and prosecuted. All lawful measures are being deployed to prevent further violence,” he said.
He disclosed that, on the directive of the IGP, additional security assets had been deployed to the affected areas to bolster operations, improve surveillance, and reinforce police presence.
The AIG also cautioned residents against reprisal attacks, warning that such actions could undermine ongoing peace efforts.
“We urge residents to remain law-abiding and support security agencies with credible information,” he added.
As part of his engagements, Morris paid courtesy visits to the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, and the Gbong Gwom Jos, Jacob Gyang Buba, where he reiterated the commitment of the police to sustained collaboration with the state government and traditional institutions.
He emphasised that strengthening partnerships with local authorities remained key to addressing the security challenges in the state.
The police, in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, said the Force would continue to work with other security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
The statement added that authorities were determined to restore normalcy in Plateau and prevent a recurrence of the attacks, even as residents expressed cautious optimism over the renewed security presence.
