The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Flutterwave, Olugbenga Agboola, as the National Youth Ambassador of the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu conferred the appointment on Agboola on Monday, September 7, 2026, when the Flutterwave boss visited the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The appointment is part of the International Youth Day 2026 – National Youth Security, Peacebuilding and Empowerment Initiative of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force said the appointment was in recognition of Agboola’s achievements as a technology entrepreneur and his leadership in building Flutterwave into one of Africa’s leading financial technology companies.
According to the police, Agboola’s contributions to innovation, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and responsible enterprise made him suitable for the role.
The initiative is aimed at leveraging positive youth leadership and credible role models to promote peacebuilding, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and constructive civic participation among young Nigerians.
Speaking at the event, Disu said the initiative was part of efforts by the police to engage young Nigerians as partners in building safer communities and promoting responsible citizenship.
The IGP stressed the importance of providing youths with positive pathways through education, innovation, entrepreneurship and lawful enterprise, while discouraging involvement in cybercrime and other social vices.
Disu also called for increased technological capacity among young police officers, particularly in understanding emerging technologies and their application to modern policing.
He said improved expertise in digital tools, technology and cyber-related investigative techniques would strengthen the capacity of the police to investigate cybercrime, trace digital evidence and respond effectively to technology-enabled criminality.
The IGP charged Agboola to use his influence and platform to inspire young Nigerians to pursue legitimate opportunities, uphold integrity and responsible innovation, and contribute to national development.
Responding, Agboola thanked the IGP for the confidence reposed in him and pledged his support for the objectives of the initiative.
He particularly committed to supporting youth empowerment, cybersecurity awareness, entrepreneurship and peaceful civic engagement.
