The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to adopt proactive, intelligence-driven, and adaptive strategies in tackling the country’s evolving security challenges.
Disu gave the directive on Tuesday during the Force’s monthly conference held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The meeting brought together Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and other top-ranking officers to review the nation’s security landscape and ongoing policing strategies.
Addressing the gathering, the IGP warned that Nigeria continues to grapple with threats such as kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder conflicts, and cybercrime.
“The dynamic nature of security threats requires that we remain proactive, intelligence-led, and responsive at all times,” Disu said, stressing the need for improved coordination and stronger leadership across Commands.
Highlighting recent operational gains, the police boss disclosed that since the last conference in May 2026, the Force had recorded notable successes nationwide.
According to him, “Eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists have been arrested.”
He added that 88 kidnapped victims were rescued, while 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition, and 28 stolen vehicles were recovered during coordinated operations across the country.
Disu further directed Commissioners of Police to intensify intelligence gathering and strengthen community policing initiatives. He emphasised the need for sustained engagement with stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and transport unions.
“Public trust and community partnership are critical to effective policing and crime prevention,” he said.
Reaffirming the Force’s commitment to professionalism and accountability, the IGP urged officers to lead by example, maintain discipline, and prioritise personnel welfare.
He also underscored the importance of strategic media engagement, noting that effective communication would enhance public confidence and counter misinformation.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led policing, community collaboration, and the protection of lives and property across the country.
