The Nigeria Police Force has celebrated Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel following his gold medal victory in the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nathaniel clinched the gold on Friday night after delivering a commanding performance to finish the race in 48.47 seconds, emerging as Commonwealth champion.
The Force, in a statement on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, described the victory as historic and a reflection of discipline, resilience and determination.
The statement noted that Nathaniel’s triumph marks a significant improvement from his sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
“The Nigeria Police Force expresses profound pride and delight over the historic gold medal victory of Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games,” the statement read.
Reacting, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the athlete for bringing honour to both the country and the Force.
He said Nathaniel’s performance exemplifies excellence and serves as motivation to officers across commands nationwide.
The Force leadership also attributed the success to sustained institutional support, noting that the achievement aligns with the IGP’s strategic agenda on sports development, personnel welfare and capacity building.
According to the statement, the police leadership has continued to prioritise the identification and nurturing of talents within its ranks, describing sports as a key driver of tactical fitness, morale and youth engagement.
The IGP, on behalf of the management and personnel of the Force, congratulated Nathaniel on the feat and wished him greater success in his sporting career.
