The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Disu, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to advancing criminal justice reforms, strengthening professionalism, and deepening collaboration with key stakeholders in the justice sector.
Disu made this known on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The NBA delegation was led by its President, Afam Osigwe (SAN), and included Abdul Mohammed (SAN), First Vice President Sabastine Anya, General Secretary Dr Mobolaji Ojibara, Chief of Staff Barbara Omosun, Salamatu Sidi, Etaba Agbor, and Isaac Aduloju.
Speaking during the visit, Osigwe commended the Inspector-General for ongoing efforts to strengthen professionalism and accountability within the Force.
He said, “The Nigerian Bar Association acknowledges the strides made by the Nigeria Police Force in promoting accountability and professionalism. We are committed to supporting initiatives that advance justice, uphold the rule of law, and improve service delivery.”
The NBA President also extended an invitation to the police to participate in the forthcoming Annual General Conference of the association.
In his response, the IGP reiterated the Force’s commitment to constitutional policing, respect for fundamental human rights, and strict adherence to due process.
He said, “The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding constitutional policing principles, respecting fundamental rights, and ensuring due process in all our operations.”
Disu stressed the importance of sustained engagement between the police and the legal profession, noting that collaboration among justice sector stakeholders was critical to strengthening the criminal justice system.
“Effective collaboration is essential in promoting accountability, protecting citizens’ rights, and improving access to justice,” he added.
He further assured that the Force would continue to improve operational standards, enhance public confidence, and ensure policing aligns with established laws and global best practices.
The meeting highlights ongoing efforts to foster synergy between law enforcement and the legal community in addressing challenges within Nigeria’s justice system.
