The Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped Primary Healthcare Centre at Udegi-Ito in Obi Local Government Area, alongside a PCI water project at Okpoga in Okpokwu LGA.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies held on Saturday and Sunday, Moro said the projects were part of efforts to bridge infrastructural gaps in the district caused by years of neglect.
He stated that his priority remained delivering people-oriented projects that directly impact the lives of his constituents.
“The health of my constituents is paramount to me. So far, I have built twelve healthcare centres across Benue South, and more will be unveiled in the coming days,” the lawmaker said.
Moro urged the benefiting communities to safeguard the facilities against vandalism, adding that he would liaise with the National Youth Service Corps to deploy medical personnel to the Udegi-Ito centre pending the recruitment of permanent staff.
“I entered politics because I want to make a difference. Everybody has a page in history. People should judge me when I’m no longer on the stage,” he said.
“I don’t talk much; I let my works speak for me. For over 100 years, the people in Udegi have looked for water; today we have found water here. It is God that is working.”
He further assured the communities of additional water projects, noting that more boreholes would be drilled to address water scarcity in other areas.
Earlier, the Acting Ad’Utu Obi, Chief Emmanuel Odeh Obagi, commended the senator for the interventions, describing them as unprecedented in the history of the community.
“Udegi-Ito has never had it so good. The solar-powered borehole is the first functional one in this community after several failed attempts in the past,” he said.
He also lauded the ongoing reconstruction of the Otukpo-Obi-Oju road facilitated by the senator, noting that it had significantly reduced travel time within the area.
The project contractor, Frederick Agada, expressed appreciation to Moro for the opportunity to execute the projects, while commending the host communities for their cooperation.
Other stakeholders, including community leaders, youth representatives, and political figures, praised the senator for his developmental strides and pledged continued support for his initiatives.
Highlights of the events included the ceremonial cutting of tapes by Major General Odeh Ede (retd.) at Udegi-Ito and Hon. Anyebe J. Agada at Okpoga.
