Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, has congratulated the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Olaka Nwogu, on his victory in the just-concluded Rivers South East Senatorial District bye-election.

Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, conveyed the message on behalf of the minority caucus of the Senate following the declaration of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday.

INEC had declared Nwogu winner of the poll after he secured 47,961 votes to defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, who garnered 1,647 votes.

The Senate Minority Leader attributed the victory to what he described as the growing acceptability of the PDP and the political influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“Moro noted that the victory reflects the confidence of the people in the PDP and the leadership direction of the party,” the statement read.

He added that Wike’s leadership was “returning the PDP to its winning ways” and expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

While congratulating Nwogu, Moro also welcomed him to the Senate, assuring him of support from the minority caucus.

“He promises to provide the necessary guidance and support for him to have a smooth stay in the Senate,” the statement added.

The statement was signed by the Media Adviser to the Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Eche’Ofun John, and dated June 23, 2026.
