The New Dawn for Women and Community Intervention Initiative has called for stronger collaboration between government institutions and civil society organisations to improve development delivery at the grassroots across Nigeria.
The group made the call during a courtesy visit to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, in Abuja.
Leading the delegation, the Founder and Chairman of NEWOMCII, Bolaji Raji, said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships and enhance development impact across communities.
Speaking during the meeting, the National Coordinator of the organisation, Sa’adatu Adamu Bokane, said NEWOMCII was established to bridge the gap between government policies and grassroots realities, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Bokane noted that although government had continued to implement programmes in sectors such as agriculture, education, health, and social welfare, many communities still lacked access to these opportunities due to communication and structural barriers.
According to her, the organisation complements government efforts by ensuring that development initiatives are properly understood and accessible at the community level.
She said NEWOMCII operates a nationwide structure comprising regional coordinators, state executives, and local government focal officers across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to drive grassroots engagement.
Bokane added that the group also deploys technical officers and consultants to ensure that its programmes are professionally guided and aligned with development standards.
“Government is doing a lot, but the population is growing and the needs are expanding every day,” she said. “We believe organisations like ours must complement these efforts to ensure that no community is left behind.”
She identified agriculture, small business support, women-led enterprises, skills development, education, and health as key focus areas of the organisation.
Responding, Dabiri-Erewa commended the initiative and emphasised the importance of collaboration between civil society organisations and government agencies.
She said credible grassroots organisations play a critical role in creating awareness about government programmes and ensuring interventions reach intended beneficiaries.
The delegation also highlighted its flagship programmes, including the Women Grow Initiative, Creating the Future Programme, Skills for Life Programme, Care and Dignity Initiative, and the Mobility and Safety Plan.
Raji said the organisation remained committed to practical community engagement and accountability through its multi-level coordination system.
He added that NEWOMCII would continue to partner with relevant stakeholders to expand the reach and impact of its interventions nationwide.
Both parties stressed the need for sustained cooperation in addressing Nigeria’s development challenges and improving the link between policy formulation and grassroots implementation.
